Have We Got A Deal for You!

Posted March 13, 2013 By Robert

We are attempting (as always) to get new subscribers.  As you probably know, subscribers help us “guess” the number of books that we need to order.  The more books we order provides us a better cushion to over-order so we can have books on the shelf (for extras) for you and others.  This means if there is a book you want to check out or try to get (that you normally wouldn’t) there is a better chance we will have it on the shelf in this situation.

We need your help to accomplish this.  We don’t want your help for free though.

We are asking you to bring us subscribers.  Do you know a friend that likes comics? Bring them to us.  Have you overheard a conversion about comics and joined in?  Send them our way.  While in line waiting for the next comic related movie, will you talk to someone about comics?  Tell them about us.

Here’s the deal:

For every subscriber that you bring in they will get a 10% discount and you will receive a 10% credit on their purchase.

WHAT?  You don’t understand?  Here’s an example…

Let’s say John comes in and pays $40 worth of books.  He will get a $4 discount and you would get a $4 credit put into your account.

This credit will continue for one year from the point the referral starts.

To help you get the word out, we have business cards that you can grab and pass out.  Put your name on the back so we know you are the referral and have the person bring it in with the comics they want to have pulled in their subscription.  We will add your name as the referral on their account and the rewards can come flowing in…

Remember: We offer a discount to subscribers.  This means you can proposition customers that get comics by mail order or from other stores.  The only exception to this is subscribers at JC Comics.  We have a strong connection with them and do not want to jeopardize our relationship.

Betty Jane Visiting Artist Program

Posted March 23, 2012 By sorris

Betty Jane CLC welcomed comic book artists Brendon and Brian Fraim for an all-day visit to the school Friday, March 23. The inaugural “Visiting Artist Program” aimed to introduce students to professional artists who make a living doing what they love.

Coordinated by the Akron Public Schools art department and local comic book store The General Store and Comics, the program was established as an incentive for students to excel in the classroom.

“We’re excited to welcome the Fraim brothers to Akron and hope the students find this event rewarding and fun,” said Bill Rose, an art teacher at Betty Jane CLC. “We plan to host similar events and have found it to be an effective way to motivate students to perform their best.”

The Fraim brothers – twins who’ve made names for themselves as artists for comics, magazines, illustrations, games and storyboards –  interacted with students, gave art demonstrations and talked about how to become a professional comic book artist. They also donated sketchbooks featuring their artwork for a raffle.

Students earned raffle tickets throughout the year based on attendance. Student events during the day ran from 8:35 a.m.-2:15 p.m. An evening event opened to the public ran from 5:30-7 p.m. at the school.

In addition to their visit to Betty Jane CLC, the Fraims attended a free meet-and-greet with fans at Quaker Square’s General Store and Comics on Saturday, March 24, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Attendees were encouraged to bring their own artwork. The Fraim brothers critiqued and judged submissions for prizes.
